Answer :

I would remove the tire........it might not be getting enough ventilation and water.  Fertilize it and the ph should be 6.0-8.0

Last Answer : Sounds like it might have been hit by lightening. I would wait until the fall to trim it. Most trimming is done in the sping. If you hit green wood it is still alive.
