When my sun conure wants attention, he screeches. I can calm him down by talking to him for a minute. Am I just reenforcing bad behavior or is it OK to give him the attention when he needs it.
Birds in the parrot family tend to be noisy. If you find his screeching annoying, don't reinforce by paying attention to him. He'll make a game of it and screech more. Be patient and ignore the screeching. When he's quiet, give him a treat he especialy likes. Do this consistently when he's quiet. He'll soon understand that screeching is not rewarded but quiet is.
