Maintaining metabolism while working in the office?

1 Answer

Answer :

I’m sorry, I don’t have the exact answer, but take the arm swinging to another level: if you are able, take a short walk on a break or something. Get some fresh air, you can even do a few push ups and sit ups lol. But yes, you just have to move occasionally.

Description : Define metabolism.

Last Answer : The totality of an organism’s chemical reactions, consisting of catabolic and anabolic pathways, which manage the material and energy resources of the organism.

Description : A key process in metabolism is the transport of hydrogen ions (H+) across a membrane to create a concentration gradient. Explain which arrangement of hydrogen ions (unequal concentration or equal concentration) allows work to be done.

Last Answer : It is clear that an unequal concentration, not an equal one, would be the only possibility that work will be done; the unequal concentration of hydrogen ions would allow them to flow across the membrane and increase not only entropy but also work.

Description : Why do many marine fish drink seawater, whereas freshwater fish do not drink at all?

Last Answer : Marine fish, living in a hypertonic environment, suffer from a shortage of available water. They drink seawater and extract the water from the salt solution for their metabolic needs. However, ... requires energy and involves the participation of ATP-splitting enzymes in glands within the gill.

Description : Which type of energy does water behind a dam have? A mole of glucose?

Last Answer : Water behind a dam has potential energy. A mole of glucose also has potential energy, though more specifically, glucose has chemical energy, a term used by biologists to refer to the potential energy available for release in a chemical reaction.

Description : Contrast kinetic energy with potential energy.

Last Answer : Kinetic energy is associated with the relative motion of objects, whereas potential energy refers to an object not presently moving; it is the energy that matter possesses because of its location or structure.

Description : A researcher wishes to stop an enzyme reaction in a cell because the products can become toxic. Speculate on an approach that the researcher might use to stop the reaction. Be sure to describe how this approach would work and any pros or cons it might have to the organism.

Last Answer : An approach that the researcher could take is to increase or decrease the temperature of the cell; because every enzyme has an optimum temperature, if the temperature changes, the enzyme will denature ... positive consequence would be that the organism would no longer have to fear the toxic product.

Description : In the metabolic pathway, ABCDE, discuss what effect molecule E would likely have on regulating the enzyme that catalyzes the reaction of A to B?

Last Answer : E is the product. If there is enough of molecule E to complete a chemical process, for example, the molecules (reactants) ABCDE will not be needed, and therefore an excess of E means less of ABCDE produced.

Description : Contrast and compare competitive inhibitors with noncompetitive inhibitors. Which can be overcome by the addition of more substrate?

Last Answer : Competitive inhibitors reduce the productivity of enzymes by blocking substrates from entering active sites. This inhibition is what can be overcome by the addition of more substrate. Noncompetitive ... active site will become less and less effective at helping convert substrate to product.

Description : Contrast and compare cofactors versus coenzymes.

Last Answer : Cofactors are “adjunct” enzymes that require nonprotein helpers for catalytic activity. An organic molecule that is a cofactor would be a coenzyme. Cofactors are often required in catalysis. The cofactors of some enzymes, however, are inorganic.

Description : Explain how enzymes speed up chemical reactions.

Last Answer : To put it simply, enzymes speed up metabolic reactions by lowering energy barriers. They are catalysts, chemical beings, that are not consumed yet speed up reactions, but still provide energy. In ... , and other molecules have lots of free energy and their breakdown is very high in potential.

Description : Discuss why ATP can store so much energy.

Last Answer : It is not that phosphate bonds of ATP are extremely strong; rather, it is the fact that the reactants (ATP and H20) have relatively higher energy compared to the products of the equation: ADP and phosphates.

Description : When a cell becomes more ordered, one of the characteristics of life, what must happen in the rest of the universe? Which Law of Thermodynamics does this reflect?

Last Answer : When a cell becomes more ordered, the rate of energy transfer or transformation decreases, and so must the rate at which entropy of the universe increases; the universe will become more ordered ... should slow down as a cell becomes more ordered, meaning less energy transfer or transformation.

Description : Contrast and compare exergonic reactions versus endergonic reactions. Which reaction type matches with anabolic reactions? Which matches with catabolic reactions?

Last Answer : Exergonic is when energy is released. In contrast, endergonic requires energy; it absorbs free energy. Magnitude of ΔG for an exergonic reaction represents the max amount of work a reaction can ... In that train of thought, endergonic would match with anabolic, as energy is consumed/required.
