While not a very glamorous answer, one of the single biggest skills you'll need to get into digital Photography is computer literacy. Not just within the realm of the desktop computer, but all computing devices. Because, really, that's what your camera is going to be. The digital photographer of today needs to be aware of just how his tools work, and why. If you look at the typical description of a camera, you'll be bombarded with technical information. At the very least, it's important to know what every item listed actually means. And why it is, or is not, significant. These technical aspects are the groundwork on which you'll be basing your artistic skills later on.
