When developing a food plan, diabetic patients need to track their blood glucose level. Because all Diabetes patients have different needs, no single meal plan works for everyone. However, many foods are appropriate for most patients. Good choices for diabetic patients include vegetables, whole grains, fruits, non-fat dairy, lean meats and beans. Diabetic patients should also always have access to a sugary snack, such as fruit, fruit juice, non-diet soft drinks or hard candy, in case blood glucose levels suddenly drop. Diabetic patients can usually eat the same food as everyone else as long as they maintain adequate blood glucose.
