It may depend on the area, but generally, no, there is not.However, local police officers are generally considered"Essential employees", meaning that the city will do whatevernecessary to ensure that the department is operational. It alsoboils down to crime-control. If the police department closed at 5PM every day, then common criminals will wait until 6 PM to commitcrimes.Even if it were the case, officers, even when "off duty", aren'tnecessarily "off duty". Officers can be called in from home at anytime, and possess the same legal authority (for the most part) evenwhile not wearing a uniform.
