Active youth prefer a sporty style. The sweatshirt fits perfectly into its frame. What kind of clothes are they and what to combine them with?
A sweatshirt is a product tailored like a sweatshirt, but made of fine fabric. It looks like a sweater, but it has a number of characteristics that make this wardrobe item unique. The name is formed from the merger of the words "sweater" and "shirt" in the English version. The classic sweatshirt has a number of interesting features:
loose, even somewhat baggy cut;
lack of any fasteners;
the neckline itself is rounded, and under it there is a V-shaped insert made of a rather wide elastic band;
there are rubber inserts on the cuffs;
sleeves are always long, cut like "raglan";
a hood and patch pockets are often used.
If initially the sweatshirts were monochromatic, now they often use various prints and inscriptions on them, as well as inserts of different colors. The fabric is usually knitted, dense, and very soft. Now this type of clothing is very popular, there are models for women, men and children.
A bit of history
The development belongs to an ordinary entrepreneur, Benjamin Russell. He was engaged in the production of lingerie in a small town in Alabama. He created the first sweater of an unusual proportion made of cotton fabric for his son, who played football for a local team and complained about the inconvenience of a woolen uniform.
Since the sweater was made of a fabric similar to a shirt, and was convenient primarily for sports, it was called a sweatshirt. Russell's son and his friends liked the model so much that the entrepreneur made a batch and sent it to Philadelphia for sale.
There, the novelty hit the taste of four football teams at once, and it became obvious that it had found its own niche. Demand increased, and other athletes joined the footballers. A little later, the Russell Athletic brand appeared, which brought a lot of profit to this family.
The first sweatshirts were made using a special technology, in which the machine was knitted in a circle and the base was seamless. So things turned out to be more wear-resistant, almost did not shrink, and had a unique cut. However, with this approach, the machine made a workpiece for no more than 8 products per day, which did not allow mass production.
Now almost all manufacturers use a different technology, primarily meeting the requirements of mass production. Champion has developed the famous loopwheeled knit and received a patent for a technology that allows you to apply a velvety finish to fabrics.
Thanks to this, they began to make drawings on sweatshirts, for example, the emblems and signs of university sports teams. This was a new step in the history of the product, which made it popular in the United States and then in many other countries.
Sweatshirt and style
According to experts in the fashion world, this thing is just perfect for everyday use. The sweatshirt is comfortable and practical and can be a great addition to a wide variety of outfits.
Due to the free cut, it hides some flaws in the figure, allows the body to breathe and does not hinder movements, and the variability of the patterns gives designers an unlimited field for activity.
The compatibility of the sweatshirt with other types of clothing has been repeatedly demonstrated on the catwalk. It looks perfect with short shorts, both denim and sporty. This is the perfect solution for summer evenings or cloudy days.
The sweatshirt goes well with any trousers. Breeches, breeches or tapered - all trendy and classic options will be good in combination with this product. Long and short skirts will also look harmonious if the image is reinforced with the right shoes.
Now these peculiar sweaters are produced not only by Champion and Russell Athletic, but also by companies such as NIKE, Armani, Levi's and others. Rihanna, Liv Tyler and many other celebrities wear sweatshirts every day.
