How to Remove Grass Stains From Clothes
Frolicking and running around the garden is great, until you realize you’ve got grass stains all over your clothes. Grass stains can be a pain in the neck, but if you know how to remove them, they won’t bother you anymore. Here are some effective ways to remove grass stains.
What You’ll Need:
Bleach
Hydrogen peroxide
Water
Vinegar
Isopropyl alcohol
Detergent
Digestive enzyme
Sponge
Use Bleach
Bleach is said to be the most effective solution to remove grass stains, but its power is stronger when you mix it with hydrogen peroxide. Here’s what you should do.
Get equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and bleach, and mix them together.
Mix the bleach-peroxide mixture to three parts cold water.
Put the mixture on the stain fabric and allow it to sit for at least an hour.
Check if the stain is gone. If it is, rinse with cold water, like normal. If not, repeat the procedure, adding more peroxide-bleach solution.
White Vinegar and Water Works
If you’re afraid that harsh chemicals from detergents and bleach can harm your fabric, you should try natural tactics to remove the stain. One you can use is white vinegar (don’t use apple cider). Mix it with warm water and use to pre-treat the stain, rubbing it. Wait for a few hours, then wash the stain using your regular detergent. You’ll see great improvement.
Use Detergents
A thorough washing of the fabric with a powder or liquid detergent may be all what you need to get rid of the annoying grass stain. Of course, the brand of detergent you use also matters. Find one that contains bleach and special enzymes, like Tide. Soak the fabric, get some detergent on it, and scrub with a brush, as hard as you can, but without damaging the fabric. Afterwards, allow the detergents to stay for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse. If you’re lucky, the stain will be out, but if not, you can just repeat the process.
The Alcohol-Water Method
Alcohol also helps remove grass stains effectively. Here’s what you should do.
Get a sponge, soak it with isopropyl alcohol, then rub it on the stain. Allow the fabric to air dry for a while.
When it’s dry, rinse it with cool water, working some liquid detergent into the area. Rinse with cold water.
Allow the fabric to air dry again, then wash the fabric again, like you normally do.
Try Digestive Enzymes
Digestive enzymes are easily found in health food stores, and are said to effectively get rid of unpleasant grass stains. Just purchase some pills and break them open. If you bought the powder type, that’s also all right. Mix the powder with water, until you get a fine paste. Spread this on the stain for an hour. Afterwards, wash the stain like normal. This will make the stain go away.
It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home, but when it stains your clothes, it’s a mess. If you get dirtied though, just keep these tips in mind.
