How to Pack Clothes
Having that “just got off the plane” look is very unsightly. Traveling isn’t an excuse to looking like a slob. Avoid wearing this look by knowing how to pack your clothes properly. Here are some tips you can follow to have wrinkle free clothes when going on a trip.
Pack Light
Consider your itinerary. Choose clothes that you can match with your other clothes. Items in neutral and earth colors are usually easy to mix and match. Also, bring clothes that you can wear on different weather conditions and occasions.
The best clothes for traveling are those made of knits, polyester and cotton blends.
Right Suitcase
Use the right bag when going on a trip. A hanging luggage is advisable if you’re mostly bringing dresses and suits. Have the right size of suitcase for your things. Trying to fit everything in one small suitcase will create wrinkles on our clothes.
Plastic and Mesh Bags
To keep your clothes wrinkle-free, place them in plastic bags after ironing your clothes.
Use 1 bag for each type of clothing. Put your shirts in a plastic bag and your dresses in another.
Place clothing, like underwear, lingerie, and socks in a mesh bag.
Fold your clothes
The easiest and most obvious way to pack up when traveling is to fold your clothes neatly. There are various ways to fold your clothes. Whatever method you choose, make sure that you’re doing it right. This means taking time to fold your clothes. Don’t be in a rush when packing. Take time to arrange and rearrange items in your suitcase.
The Military Fold
One way of folding your clothes is by following the military fold.
Lay your item on a flat surface and fold it into 3 vertical folds.
Roll it from the bottom going up.
This type of fold is good for pants and shirts.
Rolling
This is another version of a military fold. Instead of folding your item into 3, fold it anyway you want and roll it.
Rolling saves you space and prevents your clothes from wrinkling because they aren’t pressed together.
Arrange your Clothes
When Bringing a Suitcase
If you’re not rolling your clothes, try following this arrangement when putting them in your luggage.
Wrinkle-prone items should be placed at the bottom of the suitcase.
Place your jeans and those that don’t wrinkle easily at the top.
When Backpacking
Remember to place the light clothing at the bottom of your bag. It’ll be easier for you to carry you backpack if the lighter ones are positioned near your lower back.
Put things you often use on top of the bag so you don’t have to rummage in your backpack every time you need to get something.
Place dirty clothes at the bottom.
Tips:
When you’re done arranging clothes in your bag, check for spaces between items. Try to fill these areas with other things. Having spaces between items will create wrinkles as you move your bag when traveling.
There are wrinkle-free sprays available on the market. You may opt to get one and use it on your clothes.
When folding shirts, don’t forget to fold the sleeves in. Fold your shirt in half and place them neatly in your suitcase.
Put each pair of shoes in a plastic bag and place them along the sides of your suitcase. As a rule, bring only at least 2 pairs of shoes with you. Choose those that you can match with most of your travel clothes. Sandals are good for trips as you can wear these with jeans and dresses.
To travel is to discover things you’ve never known before. Don’t let fashion mishaps take the excitement out of your trip. Make each journey memorable by bringing with you the right things and packing clothes properly.
