Best cake recipe for mom for birthday?

Hi, my mother will have a birthday soon and I would like to surprise her with a cake :-) She believes in angels, so I plan to create an angel figure for the cake. But ... it would be my first work. I imagine only one floor covered with fondant (or marzipan?) And an angel. I would really like for a tried and tested recipe. Thank you very much. R., 16 years :-)

Hi R. It's nice of you to want to bake a cake for your mom, and as I read, you also want to cover with marzipan. I don't want to disparage your skills, given your age, but coating a cake is hard work, regardless of the price of the ingredients.
