A motorcycle seat is made for comfort, amidst a rough motorcycle ride. The firm and thick cushion pads the impact for every road bump while its smooth cover pampers posterior. Settling for the seat that comes with your bike is okay, but any style-conscious biker prefer seats that have more attitude. Make a motorcycle seat, so you can experience what it fells like to ride like a big bad biker.
Materials Used:
foam
leather sheet
scissors
rivets
rivet gun
measuring tape
allen key
steel press (optional)
metal curler (optional)
neoprene (optional)
Procedure:
motor seat
Fold the current seat’s flap by the two screws using an allen key.
Slide the seat back to remove.
Measure the dimensions of the seat pan. If you wish to change the shape of the seat, do so with metal-working machines like steel presses and metal curlers. Remember, you should be pretty experienced in working with metal to adjust the holder with precision, otherwise just let the professionals do it.
Cut a layer of foam, which matches the dimensions of the seat pan.
Attach the foam at the bottom of the seat pan. Make sure the entire space is covered before gluing. You can attach an additional layer of neoprene if you want the seat to be firmer and waterproof.
Cut the leather sheet bearing the same shape of the seat, only a bit larger.
Once done, cover the seat with the sheet. It should cover the entire seat with a little extra.
Use a rivet gun to stick the leather down to the seat pan. If you want the rivets to stick out, which gives a cool and edgy look, punch them into the seat’s side curl.
Attach the seat hardware then affix the structure onto your motorcycle. Double check the seat’s fit into the seat pan, just to make sure it won’t get dislodged during long and bumpy rides.
Instead of using leather, you can also go for a leopard skin printed cover or any edgy pattern to put more attitude into your bike’s appearance. You can finally ride like an action hero after installing the motorcycle seat. If you enjoy reading this article, you’ll surely be interested in reading how to buy a motorcycle.
