How to Replace a Toilet Seat
The toilet seat is an item that adds comfort and style to the much maligned toilet. Its cushioned surface is quite comfy. It also comes in vibrant colors, raising the aesthetic value of the comfort room. Over time, it may incur damage or look less flattering due to frequent use. Good thing replacing the toilet seat is simple. All you need is the right tools and basic carpentry skills to get the job done.
Remove the Old Toilet Seat
The toilet seat is connected to your toilet through a couple of bolts often covered with plastic caps. The screws are located at the back of the toilet seat, which are connected to the toilet and the toilet cover. To remove the bolts, you must, first, locate the plastic caps. Unhinge them then use a screwdriver to unscrew the connection. In some cases, the bolts are covered with rust, given that they’re often soaked in water. Apply a lubricant to to loosen them, if necessary. Once unscrewed, remove the old toilet seat and toilet cover.
Purchase a New Toilet Seat
Installing just any toilet seat may not blend well with your bathroom. It must match your bathroom’s design, unless it is covered with generic white tiles. Find a well-built unit that matches the color of your bathroom rugs and tiles. Rusty bolts also need to be replaced. A trip to the appliance center should take care of all your needs. Toilet seats are cheap, so purchasing one or two units shouldn’t affect your budget.
Install the New Toilet Seat
After purchasing a new toilet seat, you can proceed with the installation. Center the seat and cover on your toilet. Make sure the seat’s, the cover’s, and the toilet’s connection points are all aligned. Use your hands to bold the three items together. Don’t affix the connection too tight, otherwise you may have a hard time raising and returning the toilet seat in place. Just apply some pressure after a quarter turn for both bolts. Once the seat is affixed, attach the plastic caps to the bolts, which fortify the connection.
Add Appeal to Your Bathroom
A new toilet seat greatly enhances the appearance of your bathroom. Having one isn’t really a necessity, but it certainly removes the icky connotation often attached to bathrooms. You and your house guests will find your bathroom just as appealing as any of your other rooms, with a dainty-looking toilet seat and cover.
