How to Clean Blinds
The blinds, with their vibrant colors and sleek contours, are a stylish means of upholding your privacy. However, that stylishness gradually diminishes, the longer the blinds are not cleaned. Dust particles eventually pile up, covering the slats, which make the window covering look shabby. With some cleaning, you can restore the blinds to their original dainty state.
Cleaning Overview
Cleaning blinds is a bit tedious, given the gaps in-between the slats, but the job shouldn’t be too hard. You can divide the labor into three parts, namely dusting, washing, and wiping, to make the job a bit easier. Remember, don’t press too hard on the slats. They can bend, have dents, or even break after a series of rough scrubbing.
Dusting Off the Blinds
With a feather duster or a vacuum cleaner, you can quickly remove the dust piles on the slats. The feather duster’s long bristles can slip between the slats, easily collecting dust from the surfaces. The vacuum, on the other hand, may not remove as much dust as the duster, but it can clean the entire fixture in just a few minutes. Normally, this step gets the job done, but sometimes molds and mildew appear with dust. These things stain the slats and are harmful when inhaled.
Washing the Blinds
Mix vinegar with water following this ratio - 3 parts water, 1 part vinegar. Once the cleaning solution is ready, moist a piece of cloth in it then scrub each of the slats, lightly. The vinegar’s acidity will kill the molds in an instant, erasing the stains after a few scrubs. In place of the vinegar-based solution, you can also use commercial dusting sprays and cleaning solutions, depending on the material of your blinds.
Wiping the Blinds
Wipe the solution off the blinds with smooth gentle strokes, especially if the slats are made from sensitive material like plastic. Don’t forget to wipe the opposite side of each slat. Make sure the blinds are completely dry, including the hard-to-reach areas, otherwise it might attract molds and mildew. These pests thrive in moist areas and germinate rapidly, so never take wiping for granted.
An Attractive Way of Hiding
With an effective routine on hand, cleaning the blinds isn’t much of a problem. The same goes with dust and molds. In the end, you can hide yourself attractively from the sun, bright lights, and the peering eyes of your next door neighbors with a set of clean, fine-looking blinds.
