How to Clean Silk Plants
Silk plants are great decorative pieces for your office and home, but for them to always look nice, you should clean them frequently. It isn’t as hard as most people think. Here are some simple steps that you can follow.
Things you’ll need:
Water
Cloth
Feather duster
vacuum
Vinegar
Silk stain remover
Steps:
Check instructions that comes with the plant when you bought it. This will tell you how to properly care for your silk plants
Remove any surface dirt by gently dusting your plant.
Check for color bleed.
Use a small cloth or cotton and dip it in cool water with mild soap.
Select a concealed area on one of the leaves and lightly blot it.
Wait for a few seconds and blot again, this time using a damp cloth or cotton.
If color bleeds through the cotton or cloth, you can’t use any liquid to clean the plant.
Place a small brush attachment on your vacuum and use this to remove dirt you can’t remove from light dusting.
Gently wash the plant.
Run water over your silk plant.
Fill a spray bottle with water and use this for cleaning.
You may also use a water hose. Make sure that the pressure is not too strong, otherwise, your silk plant might be damaged.
Air dry.
Pat dry each leaf and let it stand on a shaded area.
Tips:
Never use a detergent soap. This is very harmful on your silk.
When using a stain remover, make sure it’s safe to use on silk.
You may also use vinegar or lemon juice to check for color bleed.
To remove hard stains, mix a small amount of vinegar or dishwashing liquid with water. Put this in a mist bottle and spray on the leaves. Use a clean cloth and gently remove the stains.
Never dry your silk plants under the sun. Heat may damage your plant.
Taking care of your silk plants is not hard to do. You just have to follow the right directions and your plants will last a very long time.
