The idea of donating blood for dengue is not correct. The monsoon is over , but the outbreak of dengue fever is not over. As long as there is rain , it means that dengue will remain till September-October. There are many misconceptions and fears in the minds of common people , even many doctors, about this dengue fever and its treatment . There is nothing to panic about if dengue. And like ten common viral infections, this fever goes away after a certain period of time without any treatment. In a very small number of cases, this can lead to complications , which can be avoided with a little awareness. Platelets when dengue ? Platelets are a type of tiny particle in the blood that helps us to clot and stop bleeding. The rate of molecular cycle in normal human blood is 1.5 lakh to 4 lakh per deciliter. Dengue fever can reduce the amount of these molecules. But once it is reduced, there is no question that it is a serious matter or that blood or platelets have to be given . It has been seen that even if the number of platelets drops to 20,000, there is no risk of serious harm to the patient. In case of bleeding from the nose , teeth or any other place under it or if the patient goes into dengue shock syndrome, the question of giving platelets arises in very limited cases. Remember , the treatment of dengue is to take plenty of water and fluids , get enough rest and try to cure the symptoms. Such as: paracetamol in case of fever or pain and vomiting medicine in case of vomiting etc. Giving platelets or blood is never the main treatment for dengue. When to count platelets ? At this time, if there is fever or body ache or rash with fever, patients rush to the diagnostic center for platelet test. Some patients are examined at different centers on the same day. Then, when the number of platelets is low, panicked and some people start testing twice a day. This is all wrong. Platelet depletion is not expected five days before the onset of dengue fever. The test should be done on the fifth day or later. It does not decrease quickly , it gradually decreases. So there is no need to visit every day or two. The test can be repeated after at least 48 to 72 hours, even if it is less than one visit. Our body is able to split platelets quickly when needed. So it is not uncommon to find two different numbers in two diagnostic centers on the same day. Dengue as soon as platelets decrease ? Blood platelet counts can be reduced not only to dengue fever , but also to other viral fevers. Even reactions to various drugs can be temporarily reduced. However, the number of platelets does not decrease so much in common virus fever , it decreases from 90,000 to 100,000. And in dengue it often goes below 50,000. That, of course, is temporary, and if you are a healthy person , you have enough resources to deal with it. At seven to eight days after the onset of the fever, the number continues to rise and usually does not decrease. So if you get dengue fever, don't panic unnecessarily , drink plenty of fluids , rest.
