How to Hang Curtains
Curtains add aesthetic appeal to any living space, but for them to look good, you must know how to hang them up properly. Hanging curtains isn’t a very difficult task, but you have to remember a few pointers so your decorations will always look eye-pleasing. Here’s what to do.
What You’ll Need:
Curtains
Measuring tape
Curtain rod
Curtain hooks
Iron
Pencil
Drill
Screwdriver
Stepladder
Cleaning fluid
Silicone spray
Procedure:
Buy your curtains and curtain rods. Choose a design that suits your home interior and windows best. Make sure you take note of the size as well as the price. Lovely, elegant curtains are pricey, but if you look around, you’ll find some that are equally pleasing, but don’t cost much.
Make sure the area where you’re hanging the curtain is clean and free from grime and clutter. It’ll be annoying if you set up a lovely white curtain only to find streaks of dust and dirt on it later. If the window is high, set up a stepladder beside it.
Install a curtain rod, if there are no existing ones yet. Mark the wall with curtains and use a hand drill to put in the screws for the rod. Make sure the rod is level when you install it.
Check the cleanliness of the curtain rod. Wipe it with a small amount of cleaning fluid and spray with a silicone spray at the back, so it will run smoothly.
Iron the curtain before you hang them, so they’ll be nicer and straighter on your window.
Count the number of curtain hooks you have and check that you have the same number of runners for the rings or tracks in your rod.
Attach your curtains to the hooks, draping the length of the curtain over your shoulder. This will remove the pressure from the hook as you put it in the track. Start at the end, going to the middle. Do the same for the other curtain, putting it over your other shoulder. Then, put the hooks on the rod.
Carefully hang the curtain rod on its hardware. Climb the stepladder if needed, but watch your footing.
Straighten the pleats of the curtains. You can tie them with curtain holders, or let them hang freely.
Curtains only look lovely when they are hung well. Remember these tips and have lovely looking curtains that frame your windows perfectly.
