How to Hang a Hammock
Snoozing on a hammock on a clear sunny day is one of life’s simple pleasures. Interested in getting one of your own? Here’s how to hang up your hammock safely.
Outdoors
Find two trees that are at least ten feet apart and at most 20 feet apart. Sturdy, low-hanging branches are ideal, but it’s alright if they don’t have those. The trees should be at least 12 inches all around, strong and sturdy.

Take the webbing strap and make a girth hitch around one of the two trees.
Make an overhand knot with the ends of the webbing strap. Adjust the knot accordingly so that the loose hammock’s lowest point hangs somewhere between the roots of the trees and your knots. Four feet from the roots is also a good measurement to use. Clip the end ring of the hammock using a carabiner with the webbing strap.
To tighten the straps, make the knot up the webbing further and closer to the tree.
An alternative method to hanging a hammock outdoors is to drill two small starter holes at the appropriate height. Screw the hooks into the holes, making sure that they are on straight and secure. Hang up the hammocks, making sure they are on properly.
Wooden Posts
If you don’t have trees, you can install wooden posts, at least four inches all around and eight feet long. Dig two holes two and a half deep and in the optimum distance for the hammock. Fill the hole with mixed cement and let dry for a week. Once the cement is dry, you can install screws, hang up your hammock and enjoy.
Indoors
Find a place where you wish to put up your hammock, with two walls at least ten feet apart.
Find the spot where you will hang up your hammock, usually four to five feet from the base of the wall. Make sure it’s level to the other wall.
Use your stud finder to look for studs in the two walls. Confirm the stud’s position by hammering a nail at that particular point in the wall.
Drill a hole in each stud marks.
Insert the hook and install in a straight and secure manner.
Hang the hammock from each hook and ensure that it is holding tightly and securely.
