How to Grow a Pineapple
Planning the Site
Growing a pineapple is a challenging task. Unless you really know what you are doing, it would be best to try growing a pineapple in a pot first rather than starting out directly with a pineapple plantation. The first thing to consider when planting a pineapple is that pineapples love the light, and that it should never be subjected to a temperature lower than 16 degrees Celsius. Since it is planted in a pot, it will be easier to transfer the pineapple from one place to another.

Another thing that should be considered is the expected size of the pineapple. The pineapple together with its leaves can shoot up to 30 inches tall. So be prepared for it to happen soon.

Preparing the Site
In a pot, place in some soil. Potting soil is sufficient for growing pineapples. Adding in a little sand wouldn’t hurt as it may provide moisture to the plant instead of over watering it. Using clay pots is recommended.

Required Materials
The required materials would be the basic tools and materials for gardening. In growing pineapples, you will also need a pineapple, planting pot, potting soil, water, glass and fertilizer.

Watering Requirements
Water the plant weekly but be sure not to over-water it. Keep it wet but not too wet. Let the soil dry as well, but it shouldn’t become too dry. Put just enough water to give it good moisture.

Nutrients required
Fertilize your pineapple plants at least 4 times a year, and 6 times a year at most.

Seasons
The season for pineapples is usually from March to July. However, since you are planting just one pineapple, its maturity depends on how and when you planted it.

Expectations/Results
Pineapples are expected to grow flower and fruits after 2 to 3 years. During that time, the leaves of the pineapple would have already grown from 25 to 30 inches tall. However, the main concern here is if it had already borne fruit at this point. Actually getting your pineapple to bear fruit is more difficult than growing a pineapple plant. But with patience and perseverance, you should be successful.
