Guerrilla warfare (Spanish: guerrilla) is a type of warfare that uses land and geographical advantage to dominate an opponent. Guerrilla warfare often takes place in remote forest areas. Guerrillas use a variety of military tactics to win battles and deal with military forces , such as surprise attacks , sabotage , raids , mini-battles , hit and run tactics , and so on. The word ' guerrilla ' is a corruption of the Spanish word ' gera ' (meaning war). The word ' guerrilla ' means small war. Ancient Chinese warlord Sun Su was the first to mention guerrilla warfare in his book The Art of War (Conquest of the 5th Century BC). It directly inspired the development of modern guerrilla warfare. The ultimate goal of each side in this armed conflict is to subdue the opposing party and force it to establish peace on its own terms. This is the policy they used when Napoleon invaded Spain and forced Napoleon to return to France.
