Barley (English: Barley; scientific name: Hordeum vulgare) belongs to the family Poaceae and is a cereal or herbaceous plant. It is a type of wheat grain that is collected from short-lived herbaceous plants. At present it is cultivated in limited quantities in winter in other countries of South Asia including Bangladesh. But it can be produced in large quantities. Barley flour is a very delicious food. However, barley husk is not in circulation in Bangladesh. Wheat and barley belong to the same family. However, in terms of taste, barley is slightly salty and warm in nature. The taste of wheat is kind of sweet and cold. Barley contains maltose , glucose , saccharin , lecithin , allantoin , amylase and vitamin-B.
