How to Get to Sleep Quickly
Sleep is important for everyone, because it’s when the body rests, so it gets back the energy it lost throughout the day. Even so, there are times when you wanted to sleep, yet your body refuses to doze off. You then end up sleeping late and waking up tired the next morning. If this is your problem, don’t fret, because here are some tips you might find helpful.
What You’ll Need:
Comfortable bed and bedding
CD player with timer settings
Nature or ocean background CDs
Books or articles
Warm, caffeine-free drinks
Clear Your Mind
sleepingWhen you get in bed, do you review what happened during the day in your mind? Do you think back on all the problems and worries you’ll have to face the next day? Avoid doing this. It’s not healthy, and will only result in tossing and unpleasant dreams. Keep the stressful and annoying events out of your mind when you sleep. Clear your thoughts and wipe away your worries. If you have less negative thoughts on your mind, the more easily you’ll fall asleep.
Make Sure Your Bed Is Comfy
A lot of people can’t fall asleep because of tension or stress, but there are some who can’t slumber just because of one simple thing: their bed. If your bed feels unpleasant under you, chances are you’ll have a harder time sleeping. Check your mattress before lying down. Is it lumpy? Are springs already poking out? Maybe it’s time to invest in a better sleeping mattress. Check your pillows, bedsheets and comforter, too. Turning off the lights is also a good idea.
Create A Pleasant Place In Your Head
Instead of thinking about the unpleasant dreams you had, why not create an imaginary story or place in your head? Take deep breaths, then start to imagine. If you’re a creative person, you’ll do this easily. Imagine pleasant scenery, like clouds, a horizon or clouds. Put yourself in that image you created, as if you’re experiencing it. When you’re starting to enjoy it, your mind will easily slumber.
Remove Bedroom Distractions
Some people bring work-related stuff into their bedrooms: laptop, desktop computer, paperwork and files. Some put appliances in it, like televisions or mini-refrigerators. These all seem harmless, but on the contrary, they contribute to why you don’t sleep quickly. Your bedroom is a place of sanctuary and relaxation. When you step in it, all you should think about is sleeping. If there are things in there that distract you, then you’ll have a hard time getting the shuteye you need.
Read
Reading is a great tactic to help your mind relax and make you sleep faster. Read a short story, an article or some poem verses before bedtime. The only problem is, you might become too enticed to read, that you’d have more trouble sleeping. The trick is to read something that catches your fancy, but isn’t too interesting.
Listen To Music
If music can soothe the savage beast, then it can certainly help you sleep quicker. Play some soothing music before you go to sleep. It should be on a low volume level, and relaxing. Sounds of nature or the ocean are good choices, and you can get these on CDs. Get a CD player with a timer setting, and play these every time you go to bed. Even if you’re already asleep, the CD will stop playing by itself. The peaceful sound will help you sleep faster.
Drink Something Warm, But Caffeine-Free
A warm and soothing drink before bedtime can help you sleep faster. It’s always nice to have something warm in your tummy before you lie down. As long as it’s not caffeinated, it’ll help, so avoid coffee and alcoholic drinks. A cup of chamomile tea or milk would be better. Just a reminder though, if you’re prone to snoring, you should skip dairy products before bedtime, so you’re better off with just tea.
Sleeping is good, but it’s better if you do it faster and without any problems. If you find yourself tossing and turning, try these tips and maybe you can reach dreamland faster than you expected.
