How to Reduce Uric Acid in Blood
Gout is a form of arthritis that makes joints painful and movements limited. People with high uric acid levels are also advised to lower their uric acid to prevent gout. Here’s how you can do it.
Exercise
People who suffer from gout are usually obese. Lower your weight by exercising regularly, at least 30 minutes a day every other day. Pair exercise with healthy eating until you reach the healthy weight for your height and body type. Once you get there, maintain that weight by continuing your healthy diet and exercise.
Keep in mind that gradual weight loss is better when it comes to reducing uric acid levels.
Low Purine Diet
Remove the following food from diet, as they have significant amounts of purine. Fish in general have moderate purine levels while lean meats with high protein are recommended for one serving a day.
Fish: Anchovies, roe, sardines ,shellfish
Meat: Mincemeat, fatty meat
Bread or pastries: Yeast, sweetbread
Vegetables: Spinach, mushrooms, lentils, asparagus
Drinks: Alcoholic beverages, ****, caffeinated drinks
The food recommended for a low purine diet include:
Food relatively high in carbohydrates, low fat with moderate protein
Complex carbohydrates such as whole grain cereals
Vinegar
Rice
Leafy vegetables
Fibrous food, which help get rid of uric buildup
Fruits, especially strawberries, blueberries, apples, bananas, limes and cherries
Olives
Cereal and cereal products
Dairy products like low-fat milk, yogurt and cheese
De-fatted soybean
Natural fruit juice, not powdered or sweetened
Drink Water
People suffering from gout should drink plenty of water to flush the uric acid out. Clear broth soups and all-natural fruit juices are also recommended. Drink at least three liters a day, or two cups of water for every hour that you are awake.
See a Doctor
People with gout or those with high uric acid levels should immediately have a doctor prescribe medication to help lower their uric acid levels. The medication will be paired off with the other ways to reduce uric acid in the blood.
Get the uric acid levels checked regularly afterward.
