When the amount of hemoglobin in the blood decreases , we call that condition anemia. Anemia in our country is mainly due to iron deficiency. Iron deficiency is more common in pregnant women and growing children. Because in all these conditions the demand for iron in the body increases. In addition, long-term kidney disease leads to iron deficiency and iron deficiency causes anemia in their body. Anemia is usually diagnosed by looking at the hemoglobin level. In women, normal hemoglobin levels are between 11 and 15. If the hemoglobin level is less than 11, we assume that the patient is suffering from anemia. In men, normal hemoglobin levels range from 12 to 15. If the hemoglobin level is less than 12, we assume that the patient is suffering from anemia. In most of our country, anemia occurs due to lack of malnutrition. Most of the patients suffering from anemia in our country are women and children of growing age. So they can be given nutritional supplements and iron to prevent malnutrition. Usually the cause of anemia is identified and treated accordingly. People who are deficient in iron are given iron supplements. And those who are low in vitamin B-12 are treated with B-12 supplement. But in case of severe anemia, blood transfusion is arranged in their case. Anemia is the number one basic problem for kidney patients in our country. Erythropoietin is a component of blood production. Kidney disease is caused by a lack of erythropoietin. Blood loss is also higher due to their dialysis. Due to these reasons, anemia is more common in kidney patients. Although there are many causes of anemia , one of them is iron deficiency. This problem usually occurs when the absorption of iron in the body decreases. And those who have less appetite have nutritional deficiencies. This also causes anemia. In their case we see if their iron level is right. For those who are deficient in iron, I supplement their iron deficiency with parenteral or injectable iron supplements. Even then, if the iron deficiency is not met, then we continue with erythropoietin.
