Carpet Repair

1 Answer

Answer :

Of all the dilemmas you have to deal with at home, repairs are probably the biggest headache. Not only do they come at the most unexpected time, but they also usually cost a lot of money. If you’re fortunate, the repair is minor enough that you can deal with it yourself.

With carpets alone, you can opt to deal with repairs. Whether you have to mend burns, mask indentations or get rid of shedding, you can forget about hiring someone to get the job done.

Here are a few examples of carpet repairs you can do on your own.

Sprouting

Some carpets have tufts that are longer than the rest. These are called carpet sprouts. Instead of pulling them out, you should simply trim them with the use of sharp scissors.

Stains

The cardinal rule when it comes to treating spills and stains is to blot out the soiled area. Never, ever wipe it. Otherwise, the carpet will further absorb the stain, or other areas will get stained as well.

You can either use a water sponge to dilute the stain or a dry paper towel to blot out the stain. You may also use a dull edge of a knife to scrape off any excess stain. Then, simply apply cleaning solution directly on the soiled area. Continue blotting until the stain is cleaned.

Fuzzing

Some fibers of your carpet stick out from the rest but they remain attached to the whole thing. This is often called fuzzing. You can simply clip off these fibers, since they may eventually shed off. Make sure to regularly vacuum your carpet after so that you can get rid of grit.

Indentations

This type of damage calls for the help of cotton towels, low sodium club soda and a steam iron. All you have to do is pour club soda in the iron before heating it. Then, moisten your carpet by sprinkling some club soda on it.

Use a white towel to cover the area and iron. Check every now and then to see if it is re-fluffing. You may have to repeat the process in case the indentations don’t disappear.

Snags

Like carpet sprouts, snags must be trimmed with the use of sharp scissors. However, if your carpet happens to have a “run,” you should glue the yarn back in place.

Shedding

Some carpets tend to shed a lot. This results in a messy look, with the loose fibers scattered on your flooring. It’s a cinch to fix this issue, for all you need is a vacuum cleaner to get rid of that extra fluff.

Burns

If you find only blackened ends of the fibers, you can simply clip them off. However, if the damage is too large, you may have to replace the burned area of the carpet. It’s much easier if you’re dealing with carpet tiles, since you just have to buy enough squares to replace the ones that are damaged.
