Floor coverings. How to choose a carpet?
In all the abundance of floor coverings, perhaps only professional finishers will be able to figure it out. Different materials are suitable for different rooms. For example, for the bathroom - tile or ceramic tiles, for the kitchen - laminate or linoleum, for the bedroom and living room - the widest range of various coatings. In what cases is it most advisable to use carpet and similar fleecy roll coverings? Let's take a closer look at this issue.
First, a little history
Carpet is a product of evolution of well-known carpets, which were made from a variety of materials: wool, silk, straw and so on. But if handmade carpets are a piece, exclusive and very expensive product, then carpet is a completely democratic material available to the widest circle of buyers. It goes on sale in the form of rolls of different widths. In order to avoid the problem of how to join two adjacent rolls, the carpet either does not have a pattern, or it has, but is so small that the errors of joining are not striking.
What material should you prefer?
Today, carpet is produced both from natural materials (wool, cotton and others), and from synthetic or composite, where strong synthetic base threads are adjacent to a braid of plant or animal origin. The base is most often made of synthetic fibers or jute, a rough and durable material made from a single southern bush. For the pile, wool is most often used, often in combination with nylon, which increases the strength and durability of the material.
Of course, a pile made entirely of wool would be preferable, but it is quite expensive. To reduce the cost, synthetic fibers are used in combination: eighty percent of wool and twenty percent of synthetics. Wool dyes well, and artificial materials can be easily made in any color scheme.
In which rooms to lay the carpet?
It is unlikely that this floor material is suitable for the kitchen, as in this case it will become a "collection" of dust, bread crumbs and any other garbage. Laying carpet in the living room is also unlikely to be advisable; other, stronger and more rigid materials are better suited here: laminate, linoleum, parquet and so on. However, there are no strict guidelines on this matter, everything is purely individual.
The bedroom is a place where guests are usually not invited, and carpet will help create a cozy atmosphere in this room. In a children's room, this material will also be quite appropriate. In general, carpet creates a feeling of warmth in the interior, helps to relax. Running your hand over a long-pile carpet feels like scratching behind a pet's ear. Based on these considerations, it is necessary to choose: in which rooms to lay it, and in which it is better to prefer another material.
Color spectrum
The choice of color directly depends on the overall interior design. For a bedroom, material of calm tones is best suited. Depending on your preferences, it can be either cold (lilac, blue, pale green) or warm (beige, light yellow, pink) colors. When choosing, it is best to seek help from a professional designer, who will tell you the best solution. But for a children's room, most likely, a warm and bright color scheme will be most appropriate. Here you can choose any of the colors of the rainbow, and even more than one.
Is carpet suitable for everyone?
Carpets often consist of more than half of fibers of vegetable (jute, cotton, linen) or animal (wool) origin. Some believe that this circumstance determines the high allergenicity of the material. However, it is not. Studies have shown that carpet allergenicity, with proper care, is no higher than that of other flooring materials. The main thing is to prevent dust from accumulating in the pile, for which it must be thoroughly vacuumed and cleaned regularly. When choosing a completely artificial carpet, the question of allergenicity disappears by itself.
