It’s tough not to talk about the septic versus sewer issue when everyone is talking about it, especially when the government declares “public sewer” and one member of the family says “septic system”, it’s hard to make a decision. However, it has to be decided: what’s in it for you if you opt for public sewer or septic system? There are pros and cons for each, and it’s your call which way to go.
One thing to consider when buying a house is to decide whether to go for the local government’s public sewer system or to set up camp and build your own septic system. Like we said, one isn’t necessarily better than the other, and you get to decide.
Benefits of Public Sewers
The big selling point about public sewers is that it is maintained and regulated by the government, or some other contractor hired by an agency for the work. You don’t have to worry about cleaning anything if you choose to be connected to the public sewer system. The sewer will basically clean itself, and you can go about your way doing what you need to do.
Benefits of Septic Systems
A septic system is another option. It’s more expensive, and a hassle to keep up with, but it’s also eco-friendly. With a private septic system, you can design it so the liquid wastes flow back out into the lot around your house, serving as minerals for the soil. The backside is you have to clean and maintain the septic tank yourself, as well as pay for the equipment and its installation. However, it’s not so bad, if you think about it, which you should. You’re doing the environment a lot of good.
How to Choose
Go for the public sewers if you can’t see yourself cleaning a septic tank anytime soon. Otherwise, install a septic tank and help save the environment.
