: Betel cultivation method: Climate and soil: Betel grows well in shady tropical humid environment. In summer the drink size is small but the taste is good. The yield is good even in the rainy season. However, excess rainfall and standing water at the base of the tree is harmful for drinking. Betel cultivation is spreading in the districts of North Bengal of Bangladesh through artificial environment. Usually a shady environment is created around the top and the top is perfectly surrounded by trees or jute sticks etc. This beautiful environment with shady surroundings is commonly called 'Bar' or 'Baroj'. The burrows are made in such a way that the light required for the tree is not disturbed in the air. Sandy loam , loam and etel soils rich in organic manure and well drained are suitable for cultivation. Red loam soils can also be cultivated by mixing organic manure and silt as required. Drinking seedlings are planted by digging holes in the soil in hilly areas. The holes are 25/30 cm deep and 30 cm wide. Up to 400-600 gms of wood ash dung manure and compost manure are applied in each hole. Seedling preparation: Seedlings are prepared by cutting the stem of betel tree into small pieces. Each seedling should be 25-30 cm in length and have 3-5 knots. Usually two knots are placed under the ground and one or more knots are placed above the ground. Seedlings at least two years old and healthy and wholesome are selected for seedling preparation. Planting of seedlings and distance of planting: Right after the onset of monsoon is the best time to plant drinking seedlings. The land must be irrigated if required before planting the seedlings. In areas where the incidence of 'leakage' disease is high , it is beneficial to mix copper sulphate with irrigation water as an antidote. When planting betel seedlings, the distance from one seedling to another should be 25/30 cm. In addition, the distance from row to row should be 35/45 cm. Within 2/3 weeks the seedlings become fresh and the first leaves appear within 1 month. As soon as the betel seedlings are a little big, they need support to grow steeply and therefore the betel tree has to be tied with jute stick or bamboo twigs. Drinking care: Special care should be taken so that weeds do not grow in the drinking field. Usually betel tree is not allowed to grow more than 1-1.5 m tall. This is because collecting betel leaves from extra tall trees becomes a problem and with it the vitality of the tree also decreases. Therefore, when it is too high, the tree is sometimes refreshed in the process of degradation. After a certain amount of height, the tree no longer needs to be tied to a support. Then the tops of the trees came down and finally came down to the ground. In this condition the growing part of the tree is left out and the part adjacent to the land is covered with soil. In this process the tree is refreshed and it has to be done at least once a year. Irrigation is not required during monsoon. However, in winter season you have to irrigate once in 6/7 days. Fertilizer application: Apply 30-50 quintals of dung manure per hectare per year in drinking land. When the seedlings have 5/6 leaves, if rotten khail fertilizer is applied, the tree becomes fresh. 100 kg urea per hectare is applied to the land 3 times. The fertilizer has to be mixed with 50 kg TSP and 50 kg potash fertilizer. The fertilizer has to be applied 3 times at a depth of 2-1 inches on both sides of the row. Insects and Diseases: Beetle dine bugs , millibugs , aphids and mites are among the insects that cause the most damage to the burrows. Milibags suck the sap of the leaves in full and nymph condition and cause damage to the drink. These insects can be controlled by applying approved pesticides. Drinking disease is the biggest problem for farmers. Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated during the drinking season, as production declines and so does the market price of the drink. Among the diseases of drinking, root rot disease , drooping disease , umbrella disease and leaf spot disease are more serious. All these diseases can be cured by applying the approved fungicide dose. Companion crop: Cultivation of gourd , pumpkin , karalla , patal , danta etc. is also very profitable along with betel leaf as an additional companion crop . In this cultivation shade is created in the drinking field and at the same time there is an opportunity for additional income of the farmer. Drinking: With proper care and care, drinking can be done six months after planting. It takes one to three years for a garden to be created, especially for drinking space. Each tree can be drunk three / four or even five times a year.
