The tax levied on goods produced and used within the country is called excise duty. Apart from revenue collection, excise duty is also levied for the purpose of reducing consumption of various harmful products. Excise duty is levied on certain items. In Bangladesh, excise duty is mainly levied on tea , cigarettes , sugar , tobacco , kerosene , medicines , spirits , matches , alcohol , cannabis , opium etc.
