: In respiration, some of the static energy bound to the cellular food (respiratory material) is stored in the high-energy organic compound ATP as chemical energy (about 40%) which helps in the biological function of the organism. The rest is released as light energy , heat energy , electrical energy. Respiration is called the thermodynamic reaction because some of the energy generated in respiration is released as heat energy.
