Larvae or larvae or caterpillars are immature stages of all holometabolous insects that are distinct from the eggs , pupae and adult stages and whose bodies are usually soft , and the appendages are reduced. However , the immature members of the outer wing pads of the late instar of aquatic hemimetabolus insects (Adonata , Ephemeroptera , and Plactoptera) are mistakenly called larvae. Real larvae look completely different from full-grown larvae. The food and behavior of larvae are completely different from those of adult insects. During the larval stage, there are some major changes (redemption) in its structure which are called larval heteromorphosis or hypermetamorphosis. Primitive insects have more larvae than modern insects.
