Hydrogen chloride ( HCl) is formed by covalent bonding of hydrogen and chlorine by sharing electrons with each other. Usually covalent compounds are polar. But since the difference in electronegativity of hydrogen and chlorine is greater, the binding of chlorine bonds attracts the electrons to itself. As a result, hydrogen is charged in a partially positive and chlorine in a partially negative charge. That is, HCl compounds are polar due to the difference in electronegativity of hydrogen and chlorine in the HCl compound.
