What soil is best for planting a Yucca? Should I avoid peat compost?

1 Answer

Answer :

Yucca plants differ from most other types of plants.  Their adaptation to desert environments means they prefer soil that is more sandy and dry with a high alkaline level.  Yucca plants do not tolerate wet soil.  To much moisture may cause root rot or other issues that will likely kill the plant. Adding a generous amount of sand or gravel to your soil can help to improve drainage and make the soil more suitable for your Yucca.  Composts tend to have high levels of moisture and would likely not be good to add to Yucca plant soil.
