I'm not sure "better" is the right word, but as a young boy, I definitely responded better to and learned more from my male teachers on average. I think a lot of the boys in my peer group felt the same way. I suspect boys have an easier time viewing male teachers as role models. There is some benefit to learning from people who have more of a common background with you. I have some suspicions that boys struggling in school compared to girls (again - on average) is partially related to this issue.
