I would start answering your question by pointing out that “liberals” don’t exist as a solid group, they don’t all have the same opinion regarding government power. If anyone I would think it’s the libertarians who decry the excess of government power, not liberals. As for whether it seems odd, no. In fact it seems quite fitting that liberals would support the idea of a socialized health care system.
