I don’t know the specifics, but you may try running your software through an emulated LAN connection. I know that there are programs available that allow you to simulate a LAN. If you can trick the program into believing that it is connecting to the internet through the LAN (think connection sharing), then you may be able to fool it into thinking that it is running on a direct connection.
