In other cities, I try to be more aware of my surroundings, and yes, of course I would be more watchful if followed by a man than by a woman. There is no reason to be surprised at this. I don’t consider race to be part of the equation. If I leave my apartment right now, and walk ten blocks, I will probably encounter people of at least ten different ethnicities along the way. Of my three close neighbours, two are from different countries than mine. In other words, if I were going to be worried about the race of the people walking around me, I’d never leave my house. I don’t think about it.
