Off, always. I do not want to be slammed with noise, whether voices or music or sound effects, every time I enter a site or something pops up.. I watch newscasts with the sound off, shop with the sound off, even watch music videos and sometimes interviews with the sound off. I avoid anything that gives me some kind of little “hurray” or “howdy” or “you win” jingle, even when it’s the NYT Thursday crossword puzzle. When I want to hear a specific piece of music or listen to some late-night TV guy such as John Oliver, I turn the sound on just for that and then right back off again. I wish it were as easy IRL as it is on the computer.
