Last year I initiated a program that sent our executives into schools to work with the Young Entrepreneur Program. We sent teams into two area high schools to help the students learn how to run their own businesses. Our executives taught them how to write a business plan, design an ad campaign, make sales calls, and deal with clients. We ended up hiring some of the kids as interns, which worked out really well. The accomplishment this job candidate has chosen to highlight involves giving back to the community, which is certainly admirable. While it doesn’t directly benefit the company in terms of sales or earnings, participation in a program like the one she describes is good for a company’s public image.
Never Say: “My boss made me Senior Community Liaison. Finally having a title has been great.” This candidate needs to focus on something she did in order to deserve that title.
