Answer :

No you don't really need a bassinet. But in the first few weeks, you might want the baby in the room with you at night (easiser to hear them when they wake and you don't have to go so far in the middle of the night). Also as a first time mom, it's comforting to hear them sleeping right there. But it's all really personal prefrence. I would see if you can borrow one from someone if you think you might want one. As you will find with a lot of baby items, some things you think you will really use before hand that you never really do.
