Once you have foundthe offending spot, sprinkle baking soda from a newly-opened boxover the area. You will only need a small amount of the powder;covering it in a light dust should be enough.For extremely strong odors such as pet urine or greasy foods,the baking soda should sit on the rug for at least three hours. Alighter odor should be removed within an hour.When sufficient time has passed, use a hard-edged broom toremove most of the baking soda, then run a vacuum cleaner over thearea.
