LED 

Working principle of LED diode:An LED emits two light when electrical energy is applied to it.LED is a two terminal device.The terminals are named as anode (A) and the other as cathode(K). A PN junction is formed between the anode and cathode.So LED is basically a PN junction diode. For proper operation,it is necessary to forward bias the LED as shown in fig and symbol of LED is also shown.This shows that the symbol is same as that of a PN junction diode with two arrows indicating that it emits light.
