How to Mop a Floor
Mopping the floor is a basic household chore, but when done incorrectly, can mean double the effort in the future. Fortunately for you, many mop companies have made the chore of mopping much easier and streamlined. Here’s how to do your mopping quickly and efficiently.
Materials
Mop
Mop bucket with wringer
Vacuum cleaner
Detergent
Water
Buckets
Procedure
Choose the appropriate kind of mop for your floor. If you have a textured floor, the old-fashioned rag-type mop will do. If you have a tiled floor, a sponge-type mop will be better to use.

Sweep and vacuum the floor thoroughly. Don’t leave any debris lying around.
Check if the detergent you’re going to use is appropriate for your floor type.
Fill a bucket a little over 2/3 with warm water. Mix a small amount of detergent in it. Or add the detergent as per the instructions on the label.
Dip the mop head into the water, getting the whole of it wet. Wring out the excess water with the wringer, or if it’s built-in, using the lever near the mop head.
If you’re using a rag-type mop, clean the floors using a figure eight movement. If you’re using a sponge-type mop, you can clean the floors using straight up and down movements. Mop from top to bottom, to prevent tracking spots caused by your feet contacting the wet floor.
When dealing with stains or stubborn spots, apply a little more pressure and scrub vigorously using the mop.
Rinse and wring the mop in the bucket every now and then. If the water in the bucket becomes too dark or dirty, empty it out. Refill with more warm water mixed with detergent.
Once you’re done mopping, clean and rinse your mop. Empty the mop bucket and give it a good cleaning, too. Store all materials away.
Let the floor air-dry completely before walking on it again.
