How kiwi appeared
This interesting and healthy fruit owes its appearance to the usual New Zealand gardener Alexander Ellison, who in the 19th century was engaged in the cultivation of the Chinese liana, thanks to which he received the so-called "Chinese gooseberry". After that, for quite a long time, the kiwi did not leave the island, becoming popular only among the local population. Interestingly, the industrial crisis helped it spread throughout the world. Former postal clerk James McLocklin, who was left without a job, had to start growing lemons and kiwi, after which the fruit went on sale, although at first it was not in great demand.
First, thanks to American soldiers, kiwi seeds came to the United States of America, and then to Europe, after which the fruit won worldwide fame and recognition. It was then that the name "kiwi" appeared - in honor of a small New Zealand bird. Today, kiwi is grown primarily in the United States, New Zealand, Israel and France.
Kiwi fruits usually ripen by autumn. So, in New Zealand it is on sale from June to October, in California - from November to May. To determine whether the fruit is ripe or not, you need to lightly press on it with your finger. The fruit should not be hard. Kiwi is usually eaten either peeled or halved and spooned out of the resulting cup. It should be noted that people with allergies should treat this product with caution.
