With the approach of cold weather, people insulate their homes and buy winter clothes. But a good host should also think about a comfortable sleep for the household, which is largely ensured by the presence of a warm blanket. It is important that a person does not freeze or overheat, therefore, when choosing, one should take into account the characteristics of the body and the air temperature in the apartment.
Products with natural fillers
The main fillers of natural origin for blankets that warm the most efficiently include down, feathers and wool.
Down and feathers are considered the warmest. As for the type of sewing of the product, here the "cassette method" wins, providing for the presence of fabric partitions in the cover. This allows all formed chambers to be individually filled with fluff. This design helps to prevent cold zones, and therefore to keep warm during sleep.
But duvets also have a number of disadvantages:
they cannot be used by people who suffer from allergies;
they quickly damp, therefore they require regular drying;
they cannot be machine washed;
they are the most expensive.
In the tailoring of duvets, goose down and a small percentage of feathers (ideally 10%) are mainly used. But those for whom the issue of cost is not so important can be advised to purchase a blanket made from the down of a loon, an Arctic bird. Such fluff does not stray into lumps, absorbs moisture almost instantly and gets rid of it just as quickly. Even the largest eider blanket weighs no more than 1 kg.
Woolen blankets provide excellent warmth on the coldest days, despite their insignificant thickness. Wool (especially camel wool) can have a beneficial effect on the human body, stimulating blood circulation and positively affecting tissues and skin. Such products are recommended for people who suffer from diseases of the bronchi and musculoskeletal system. Although wool blankets absorb moisture, unlike duvets, they remain dry to the touch. They should not be used only by persons suffering from wool allergies.
The most budgetary of this type of product are sheep wool blankets, and the warmest, lightest and softest ones are from goat wool. Such bedding is made from wool of Kashmir mountain goats, which is why they are expensive. In order for the woolen blanket to last longer and not lose its shape, it is better not to wash it, but take it to a dry cleaner.
It should be noted that, as a rule, blankets are sold in specialized stores, which is where you should buy them, and in the markets and in the passages there is a high probability of purchasing low-quality goods.
Products with synthetic fillers
In terms of their thermal characteristics, fillers made from synthetic fibers, which are synthetic winterizer and polyester fiber, are not inferior to natural ones. However, they have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Pros of synthetic fillers:
do not absorb foreign odors;
do not cause allergies;
they can be machine washed;
affordable price.
The disadvantages include the lack of a therapeutic effect. The synthetic winterizer is cheaper, but after washing, the blanket from it becomes stiffer.
Polyester fiber is a better filler, products made from it are able to restore their original shape after crushing, dry quickly. The volume is fully restored after washing.
