Illustrate Gabian structure with a neat sketch.
i) A gabian wall is a retaining wall made of stacked stone-filled gabians tied together with wire. Gabion walls are usually battered (angled back towards the slope), or stepped back with the slope, rather than stacked vertically.
ii) A gabian is a cage, cylinder or box filled with rocks, concrete, or sometimes sand and soil for use in civil engineering watershed development.
iii) Gabian structure stores water from natural streams on its upstream side and this water is used in rural areas for drinking, washing and minor irrigation purpose.
