Cancer is known as one the most critical diseases of the world. Medical term for cancer is malignant neoplasm which means irregular and unregulated multiplication of body cells but in common language, we know it as uncontrollable growth of cells. Causes of Cancer:
All cells in our body follow a regulated process of growing, division and dying. When this process breaks down due to some reason, the body cells start to grow and divide uncontrollably and this process is known as cancer. Unlikely to the normal cells, the cells in cancer do not die. These cells keep multiplying and growing.
There can be many reasons for these cells to grow abnormally. Let's read the main reason of this irregular growth of cells:
Damage in Genes:
Damage or mutation in DNA may cause uncontrollable growth in cells. There are genes that regulate the growth, division and death of the death. When any of these genes is harmed or damaged, the cells start to grow abnormally.
There are four types genes that are involved in cell growth and division control. Oncogenes regulate the cells to divide whereas; tumor suppressor genes see when the division should be stopped. The job of suicide genes is to ask the cells to commit suicide or kill itself when anything wrongs seems to be going in body and the last DNA repair genes directs the cells to repair the damaged DNAs.
When cells are unable to correct the damaged DNA due to cell'ss mutation, it causes cancer. This activity stops the cells from committing suicide that prompts uncontrollable cell growth.
Symptoms of Cancer:
It is very important to know and observe the symptoms of cancer. Awareness about symptoms of any disease can be helpful in treating the same. Doctors say, if you observe any signs of cancer and consult the doctor immediately, it is quite possible to stop and treat the problem. Since, there are different types of cancers and they may grow in different body parts, symptoms of cancer vary according to the type of cancer and the body organ it has taken place in. Symptoms may also depend on how big or small cancer tumor is and how much area or tissues it has affected.
When cancer starts to grow, it pushes nearby organs or nerves which causes some irritation and pain but in some cases, these symptoms do not occur unless the cancer has already grown to a bigger stage. Many people feel a small tumor continuously paining or irritating nearby organs. Extreme tiredness and sudden weight loss are other possible symptoms of cancer.
It is observed that in some cases, cancer cells release some substance into the blood stream which causes some unusual and irrelevant symptoms like blood clot in veins and numb body parts.
Available Treatments of Cancer:
Science has achieved new heights in medicines and treatments. Diseases those were thought to be untreatable are now treatable. Surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy and immunotherapy are the most successful ways of treating cancer. Surgery is one most common way preferred all over the world to get rid of cancer. There are many alternative treatments also available to heal cancer. Awareness is always helpful.
