Music isn't a subject you really 'need'. My teachers always told us that music is important because if you listen to music it has the chance to boost your mood and make you happy. For me that has been the case, If I feel down I just listen to some music and feel way better right away. If you want to teach your kids music that is totally fine, but know that it isn't required to enjoy music. If you want them to try out different kinds of music and see whitch themes they like go ahead, do it. It is important to find a music style you like. If you aren't happy with the music they like, don't punish them or let them know, just let them listen to it if it makes them happier. I wish you the best of luck!
