How to Mod Wheels
Most cars are built and designed to withstand the rigors and stresses of daily driving, but some people expect more for their car’s looks and performance. Modification and customization can accomplish the goals you want for your car. You can start by modifying your wheels to provide more grip or just make your car look good.
Chassis and Suspension Configuration
Before modifying your wheels and tires, you need to make sure that your vehicle can accommodate the size of your new tires and wheels. It’s not a simple matter of replacing the stock parts with new ones while retaining the original configuration. For larger wheels, you may need to increase the suspension, modify the camber, and even replace the existing body kit with a new one.
Performance Mods
Performance mods focus on adding more grip and traction to your car. The changes include tires built to improve performance, and wheels that can hold the added pressure and strain exerted upon the tires:
Larger tires and wheels. For cars with four-wheel drive (4WD) capabilities, larger tires and wheels provide the grip and traction needed to maneuver a car on different forms of terrain. The tires and wheels should match the specifications of the tasks you expect from your vehicle.
Racing wheels. Racing wheels are usually wider than conventional wheels, and are made of a compound that’s stronger and has a better grip than conventional daily driving wheels.
Aesthetic Mods
Aesthetic mods do not add or subtract to performance, but they do add to your car’s overall look and value. Here are some common modifications you can use for your car:
Spinner rims. To add to your car’s pimped-up effect, you can use rims that rotate (either mechanically or electronically) to make you stand out in idle traffic or on the parking lot.
Finish and lighting. You can have your wheels finished in chrome or any other metallic texture, and you may even add lights to the rims for that awesome look at night.
Modified and customized wheels may not seem like much, but they can have a direct effect to looks and performance. With these steps, you can tell the auto customizer exactly what you want from your vehicle.
