How to Eat Healthy While Dining Out
Eating out is one of the reasons most people fail to maintain their weight or stick to their diet plan. It’s so hard to control what you eat when you dine out. Here are some suggestions you can follow to eating healthy even when dining out.
Before Eating Out
Find out your daily recommended calorie intake. Knowing how much you should have will guide you in deciding how much you should eat.
Plan your meals. If you had a big breakfast, try to have a lighter lunch and dinner. You can also have a light breakfast, a heavy lunch and a light dinner.
Have a lifestyle check. Having a rigorous lifestyle means needing plenty of energy for your body. Don’t starve yourself. Choose energy giving foods and eat the right amount.
Before going to a restaurant, find out the type of foods that go well with your diet. This will make it easier for you to choose what to order when you’re in the restaurant already.
Choosing a Restaurant
When choosing a restaurant, choose those that offer a healthy menu.
Always ask how the food is prepared. What type of oil they use in cooking? Do they use fat-free or whole milk? Margarine or butter? Will they entertain special food requests from their customers?
Choosing What You Eat
Don’t hesitate to personalized your order by asking for a low-fat or low- calorie food preparation. You may also ask to have vegetables on the side instead of fries.
If you want to have pasta, it’s healthier to choose those that have tomato-based sauces rather than cream-based. Red sauces have a lower fat and calorie content than white sauces.
Avoid cream-based soup as it contains more fats and calories. Go for soups made of broth.
Don’t choose fried foods. Healthier food choices are those that are grilled, broiled, poached, steamed or baked.
Go for food items that have fruits and vegetables. These will provide you with enough fiber and other necessary nutrients.
If you’re getting salad, ask if they can serve the dressing separately so that you will be able to control how much dressing is put on your salad. It would also be a good idea to choose vinaigrette as your salad dressing because it has fewer calories.
Choose fruit for dessert instead of cakes. If you’re dining with a friend, share your dessert with him. That’s half the calories for you!
You can still be in control with the food you eat even when dining out. Stay healthy and fit all the time!
