How to Grow Orchids
Planning and Preparing the Site
Orchids are one of the most adaptable flowers on earth. Having to choose a site for growing your orchid would not be that difficult. The basic things you need include having a good medium wherein the orchid roots are provided with good structural support. The flower itself should be provided with adequate air spaces.
A green house would be the best place to grow your orchids where they can receive indirect sunlight and could also have the advantage of having a shade. If you don’t have a greenhouse, having your orchids under a fluorescent light would do the trick.
Keep the flower moist by setting potted orchids on decorative pebbles in a water-filled container. The water that evaporates from the pebbles provides the orchid the right humidity.
When it comes to temperature, orchids are not as delicate compared to other flowers. As has been said earlier, orchids are very adaptable. It is not impossible though that in extreme conditions, orchids may not survive.
Required Materials
The materials required are the basic gardening materials and gardening tools. What separates orchids from other flowers though is that it is aerial. That is why instead of soil, it uses another medium and one of the best medium for orchids is the osmunda fiber.
Watering Requirements
In culturing orchid, the most important factor to consider is watering. One should always remember that when the medium is dry, you should water your plants. Different mediums have different paces on when and how fast it dries.
Nutrients Required
For orchids grown on soil, it would be best to use a soluble plant food. For orchids grown on osmunda fiber, you may use a liquid fertilizer.
Common mistakes of those who culture orchid is that they over fertilize their orchids. It is recommended that orchids be fertilized only once a month.
Seasons
There are no special seasons for orchids. They can bloom any month of the year with just the right lighting, watering and fertilization. They can grow all year round.
